About

GivEnergy Local is an integration that reads and controls GivEnergy inverters over local Modbus TCP. It needs no cloud, GivEnergy portal account or MQTT broker, and it is set up in the UI with the inverter's IP address, port and scan interval. It adds sensors and controls for PV, battery, grid and load data, including per-cell battery details, charge and discharge scheduling, and battery modes. It covers single-phase and three-phase hybrid, AC-coupled, All-in-One, EMS and Gateway systems. Services can expose a set of entities to voice and LLM assistants, generate a starting Predbat configuration, and capture raw Modbus frames for diagnosis. A passive listen-only mode lets Home Assistant read data while another client polls the inverter, and repair notices flag an unresponsive device or a changed plant topology.

After setup

  • Battery data only (suppress controls and system sensors)
  • Warn when the inverter clock drifts from Home Assistant
  • Expose per-cell battery detailsCreate an entity for every individual cell voltage and temperature on each battery pack, AIO module, and HV module. This can be a large number of entities (a six-module HV stack is roughly 288), so it is off by default on new installs — the per-module min/max/delta roll-ups are always available regardless. Existing installations keep their per-cell entities unless you turn this off.
  • Passive (listen-only) modeStop polling the inverter and instead read the shared register cache that another client keeps fresh on the same dongle. Useful in a side-by-side setup — for example GivTCP polling actively while Home Assistant only listens — to halve the load on a marginal dongle. Requires another client actively polling the same inverter; on its own the data will go stale.
  • Reconnect quiet window (seconds)How long to stop reconnecting after the dongle fails two consecutive liveness probes, so it can recover undisturbed. Default and minimum 120 seconds; raise it if a marginal dongle keeps locking up and you want to give it a longer breather. Watch the Dongle Hangs and Reconnect Backoffs counters to judge the effect.
  • Enable splice-guard heal windowAllows the battery splice-guard to recover from legitimate LiFePO4 charge-knee surges (voltage/capacity class, multi-poll streak gate) rather than keeping the battery permanently offline. Worth enabling if you see repeated battery disconnects near full charge.

Actions

  • Re-detect plant topologyClears the cached plant topology and reloads the integration, forcing a full hardware detection sweep on the next connect.Fields: Device
  • Expose recommended entities to voice assistantsOne-shot service that exposes an opinionated headline set of entities (battery SOC, PV/grid/load power, today's and lifetime energy totals, inverter status) to one or more voice/LLM assistants. Idempotent and never un-exposes anything.Fields: Device, Assistants
  • Capture debug framesRecords raw Modbus wire frames from the inverter for a set duration and saves them as a redacted text file with an environment header. A persistent notification links to a page to inspect, download, or report the capture.Fields: Device, Duration (seconds)
  • Generate Predbat configBuilds a starting Predbat apps.yaml for this install, wiring entity IDs resolved live from your registry. A persistent notification links to a page to review and download the file; you still fill in the tariff and other Predbat settings.

Troubleshooting

From the README

Talk to your GivEnergy inverter straight over local Modbus TCP — no cloud, no GivEnergy portal account, no MQTT broker. Full sensor and control coverage, a live self-building dashboard, and proper Home Assistant plumbing for automations, the Energy dashboard, voice and LLMs.

  • 🔒 Fully local & private — talks to the inverter directly on your LAN; nothing leaves the house, and no GivEnergy account is involved.
  • 🔋 Every sensor and control — PV, battery, grid and load telemetry; per-cell battery health; charge/discharge scheduling, SOC targets, and battery modes.
  • 📊 A dashboard that builds itself — a bundled strategy renders a full six-tab layout (plus Flow, Glance and Analyst views) and resolves every entity live, so it never rots when a device moves or an…
  • 🤖 Predbat- & EMS-ready — drives Predbat on single- and multi-inverter EMS plants, with no GivTCP or MQTT broker in the loop.
  • 🗣️ Voice & LLM in one click — a single service exposes the right entities to Assist and LLM tools (Claude / OpenAI via MCP).
  • 🔬 Honest about the hardware — register maps are confirmed against real wire captures, with built-in capture tooling to diagnose anything that reads wrong.
