About

Alpha ESS reads energy generation, storage and usage data from Alpha ESS systems through the vendor's Open API. It depends on the vendor's cloud, so an AppID and AppSecret from the Alpha ESS developer portal are entered in the Home Assistant interface, with an option to verify the SSL certificate. It adds binary sensors, buttons, numbers, sensors, switches and time entities, including status sensors for the EV charger, TCP, Ethernet, 4G and WiFi connections. Polling can run on a single interval or in an alternate mode that refreshes live power data faster than summary, energy and config data. Charge and discharge schedules are handled through the periodic schedule API, with older fixed-slot endpoints used as a backup when permission is missing. An option can assume scheduled charging and discharging are enabled when their state is unknown, which helps systems that report both schedule flags as 0.

  • Full poll interval (seconds)Interval for all data: summary, energy, config, and power. When alt polling mode is enabled this becomes the slow/full poll interval.
  • Alt polling mode (split fast/slow)When enabled, live power data (SOC, PV, grid, battery, load) polls at the fast interval, while summary, energy, and config data polls at the full poll interval.
  • Fast poll interval (seconds)Interval for live power data when alt polling mode is enabled. Default 15 seconds.
  • Assume scheduled charging and discharging are enabled when unknownSome systems (UK/EU) report both schedule flags as 0 whatever the app shows, so Home Assistant has no record of them until the Scheduled Charging and Scheduled Discharging switches have been set once, and every service call or duration button is refused until then. Turn this on to send 1 for any flag Home Assistant has no record of; a switch you have set always wins, and the pair is recorded once a write succeeds. Leave it off if either schedule is meant to stay off in the app.
