About

Tado Hijack is a cloud integration for tado accounts that manages the API call limit through quota-aware polling and command batching. It adds climate control, hot water, schedules, valve and offset data, and indoor climate values such as dew point, absolute humidity and mold risk per zone. Polling intervals adjust to the remaining daily calls, the account's reset time is detected, and an economy window slows polling at night. Several actions sent in one window are merged into one bulk request on classic zones, and settings can skip calls that repeat the cached state. It covers V2 bridges, V3 Classic and Tado X, and for V3 and Tado X the heating climate comes from the HomeKit or Matter integration, which has to stay installed. Services include manual poll, boost all zones, set zone mode, set schedule and uploading a meter reading, and setup is done in the UI.

  • Tado Hardware Generation
  • Full Cloud ModeEnable climate entities via cloud polling. Required for V2 bridges (GW) as they have no HomeKit support. For V3 (IB01/GW01) and Tado X, leave disabled to use HomeKit/Matter instead.
  • Fetch Extended DataFetch extended data during initial setup. Costs: 1 API call per device (temperature offset) + 1 API call per heating zone (away temperature). After initial poll, data is fetched according to configured intervals. Disable to save quota.

Configure Tado Hijack

  • Status Polling Interval (Seconds)Interval for room data (temp, humidity, heating power). IMPORTANT: Dynamically overridden by 'Auto API Quota' when enabled; serves as fallback when calculated budget is exhausted.
  • Presence Polling Interval (Seconds)How often to check Home/Away status. Set to a higher value (e.g. 43200s/12h) to save quota.
  • Hardware Sync Interval (Seconds)How often to sync battery levels, firmware, capabilities and device list. 86400s (24h) is recommended.
  • Refresh weekly plans after quota resetOnce after each quota reset, fetch every zone plan into the calendar cache. One call per zone. Default off.
  • Reduced Polling ActiveEnable the time-based weighted polling profile.
  • Window Start TimeTime when the economy window starts (e.g. 22:00).
  • Window End TimeTime when the economy window ends (e.g. 07:00).
  • Economy Interval (Seconds)Polling interval during the economy window (e.g. 3600s = 1h). Set to 0 to pause updates.
  • Auto API Quota (%)Use X% of FREE daily quota for status polling (0 = disabled). FREE = Limit - Background Reserve (Syncs) - External Activity (Automations, App use beyond buffer). Hybrid strategy: Uses MAX(Daily Budget - Used, Remaining * X%) → System ALWAYS continues polling even when over daily budget.
  • Throttle Threshold (Safety Buffer)Reserve N calls for EVERYTHING outside of Hijack's periodic background polling (Automations, Scripts, Manual App use). Polling stops at this floor to ensure your automations never stall. Recommended: 20.
  • Quota Safety ReserveAPI calls reserved for the self-learning reset window. The system automatically learns the reset time and adaptively distributes this reserve to bridge cloud-side variations. 0 = disabled (not recommended). Default: 2.
  • Minimum Auto Quota IntervalMinimum polling interval in seconds (5-43200 = 12h max). Standard API: 5s minimum. Proxy: 120s minimum enforced. Lower = faster updates but higher API usage. Default 20s.
  • Disable polling when throttledStop periodic polling entirely when remaining quota hits the safety buffer.
  • Suppress Redundant CallsSkip API calls when target state matches cached state (temperature, mode, presence, power). Saves quota on accidental double-clicks or UI interactions. Only sends when actual change detected. Values not in cache always send.
  • Suppress Redundant ButtonsAlso skip button actions (resume_all, boost_all, turn_off_all, set_mode_all) when ALL zones already match target state. Requires 'Suppress Redundant Calls' to be enabled. Individual explicit actions and sync buttons (manual_poll, refresh) always send.

From the README

An optimized Tado integration designed to handle strict API limits through intelligent quota management and command batching.

  • Auto API Quota: Dynamically adjusts polling intervals based on your remaining daily API calls and detects your account's specific reset time.
  • Command Batching: Classic zones in one window share one call. Tado X is one call per room, or one quick action when the whole heating batch matches.
  • Multi-Generation Support: Full support for V2 (GW bridges), V3 Classic (HomeKit), and Tado X (Matter) within a unified architecture.
  • Several homes: One account can hold more than one home, on V2, V3 Classic, and Tado X. Setup logs in, you pick one, and the next home is another add with its own login.
  • Reverse linking: HomeKit or Matter entities are on the Hijack device. Keep the Tado HomeKit or Matter integration, or the clone is gone. Created in HomeKit or Matter.
  • Indoor Climate Sensors: Calculates dew point, absolute humidity, and mold risk per zone.
  • Offset from an external temperature: A linked sensor is compared with the TRV and the offset is written. Off until you choose an interval. How it runs.
  • External window contact: A binary sensor per zone turns the room off and resumes the schedule afterwards. Handler.
  • Offline TRV recovery: The last intent is applied again when a HomeKit or Matter climate returns. Details.
  • Night-Savings (Economy Window): Slows down polling during the night to save API calls for daytime use.
