About

Alfa by Sinapsi reads power and energy data from a Sinapsi Alfa energy monitoring device over the local network. It adds sensors for imported, exported and produced power and energy, including daily imported energy split by tariff band and averaged power values. Communication uses asynchronous Modbus, and the device accepts only one Modbus TCP client at a time, so the built-in Modbus package from Sinapsi must be removed first. Cumulative energy sensors restore their last value after a restart and ignore the zeroed readings a device can return, which keeps the Energy Dashboard from double-counting. Connection problems can raise repair notices after a set number of failures, and an optional recovery script can run when the device stops responding. Device triggers cover unreachable, not responding and recovered events, and setup is done in the UI.

Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

Alfa Connection Configuration

  • Device name (used for sensors' prefix)
  • IP or hostname
  • TCP port
  • Polling interval (min: 30s max: 600s)
  • Connection timeout (min: 5s max: 60s)
  • Skip MAC detectionEnable for VPN connections. Uses host-based device ID instead of MAC address (faster startup).

Reconfigure Alfa Connection

  • Device name (used for sensors' prefix)
  • IP or hostname
  • TCP port
  • Skip MAC detectionEnable for VPN connections. Uses host-based device ID instead of MAC address (faster startup).

After setup

  • Polling interval (seconds)
  • Connection timeout (seconds)
  • Enable repair notifications
  • Failures before notification (1-10)
  • Recovery script (optional, runs when device stops responding)

  • Installation/Configuration through Config Flow UI
  • Sensor entities for all data provided by the device
  • Translated sensor names: Sensor names displayed in your Home Assistant language (supports German, English, Spanish, Estonian, Finnish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, and Swedish)
  • Options flow: Adjust polling interval, connection timeout, and repair notification settings at runtime
  • Reconfigure flow: Change device name, host, port, and skip MAC detection
  • Repair notifications: Connection issues are surfaced in Home Assistant's repair system with configurable threshold
  • Recovery notifications: Detailed timing info (downtime, script execution) when device recovers
  • Energy statistics protection: Cumulative energy sensors are guarded against the spurious zeros a device can return after a restart, which would otherwise be double-counted on the Energy Dashboard
  • Device triggers: Automate based on device connection events (unreachable, not responding, recovered)
  • Recovery script: Optionally execute a script when connection failures reach the threshold
  • Diagnostics: Downloadable diagnostics file for troubleshooting
  • All changes apply immediately without Home Assistant restart
