About
Sofar is a built-in integration that connects Home Assistant to a Sofar inverter over Modbus TCP. It works locally and is set up in the UI with the host, port and Modbus unit ID of the inverter or of the bridge it is connected through. It provides sensors for power and other readings, binary sensors for fault and status conditions, buttons for an IV curve scan and an RTC sync, selects for charger use mode and EPS mode, and switches. Actions set an active power limit as a percentage of rated power and a feed-in limit for grid export. Two more actions set passive mode power and timeout, and they apply only to inverters with battery storage. Connection settings can be changed later without removing the integration, and a diagnostics file can be downloaded for bug reports.

Setting it up
It is added under Settings, Devices and services, with Add integration.
Connect
- HostThe hostname or IP address of the inverter, or of the Modbus TCP bridge it's connected through.
- PortThe Modbus TCP port to connect on.
- Modbus unit IDThe inverter's Modbus unit ID, also called its Modbus device address.
Also asked when changing the connection.

Actions
- Set active power limitCaps the inverter's own output as a percentage of its rated power, which is the power rating on the inverter's nameplate, usually also in its model name.Fields: Inverter, Enabled, Limit
- Set feed-in limitLimits how much power the inverter exports to the grid.Fields: Inverter, Maximum power, Mode
- Set passive mode powerCommands the passive-mode setpoints. Only for inverters with battery storage.Fields: Maximum battery power, Minimum battery power, Inverter, Grid power
- Set passive mode timeoutSets how long a passive-mode command holds, and what the inverter does when it expires. Only for inverters with battery storage.Fields: Timeout action, Inverter, Timeout
Troubleshooting
- DiagnosticsDownloads a diagnostics file to attach to a bug report.
