About

AirSonos is a Home Assistant app that adds AirPlay support to Sonos and other UPnP players. It detects Sonos players on the network and creates a virtual AirPlay device for each one, acting as a bridge between the AirPlay client and the real player. Apple devices and other AirPlay clients can then send audio to players that do not support AirPlay natively. Settings cover log verbosity, the bind address, the port, buffering for RTP and HTTP audio, and timing drift. When Sonos players are grouped, only the group master appears as an AirPlay device, and volume applies to the whole group. The app needs Home Assistant OS and runs on the host network.

From the docs

Apple devices use AirPlay to send audio to other devices, but this is not compatible with Sonos players. This app tries to solve this compatibility gap.

It detects Sonos players in your network and creates virtual AirPlay devices for each of them. It acts as a bridge between the AirPlay client and the real Sonos device.

Permissions

  • Host networkUses the host's network directly instead of its own.
  • Supervisor APICan talk to the Supervisor, which manages apps and the system.

Configuration

  • Log levelControls the level of log details the app provides.
  • PortThe port to run on, the default of 49152 should be good for most cases.
  • AddressAllows you to specify the IP address the AirCast server needs to bind to.
  • RTP LatencyAllows you to tweak the buffering, which is needed when the audio is stuttering (e.g., low-quality network). This option specifies the number of ms the app has to buffer the RTP audio (AirPlay). Setting this value below 500ms is not recommended! Setting the value to 0 makes the app to get the value from AirPlay.
  • HTTP LatencyAllows you to tweak the buffering, which is needed when the audio is stuttering (e.g., low-quality network). This option specifies the number of ms the app has to buffer the HTTP audio.
  • DriftAllow to let timing reference drift (no click).
