About
Matter Server is a Home Assistant app that runs a Matter WebSocket server for Matter device support. Once the app is started, the WebSocket becomes available to Home Assistant Core, which then uses the Matter integration to talk to it. The WebSocket interface is exposed only internally by default, and an advanced option lets a port be opened through the host interface. Since version 9.0.0 the app runs only the matter.js Matter Server, and data from the older Python server is migrated automatically. A beta flag or a specific server version setting can replace the bundled server version. It requires Home Assistant OS, runs on aarch64 and amd64, uses the host network, and has its own page in the sidebar.

Permissions
- Host networkUses the host's network directly instead of its own.
- Supervisor APICan talk to the Supervisor, which manages apps and the system.
Configuration
- Matter Server Log LevelLogging level of the Matter Server component.
- Use the latest beta versionInstalls the latest beta of the Matter Server (matter.js based) from npm on top of the bundled version. It is highly recommended to create a backup before starting the app with this flag enabled!
- Enable test-net DCL usage.Enable PAA root certificates, software updates and other device information from test-net DCL. This is meant for development and testing purposes.
- Time synchronizationControl whether the Matter Server pushes the current time to Matter devices. "auto" (default) enables it only when the host clock is NTP synchronized; "on" always enables it (a warning is logged if the host clock is not NTP synchronized, since the time sent to devices is only as accurate as the host clock); "off" disables it.
- Default Fabric LabelPin the fabric label (shown on Matter devices for this controller, max 32 characters) to this value. By default the Home Assistant home name is used. This is useful if the Matter Server is used from multiple Home Assistant instances, which otherwise each keep pushing their own home name as the label. When set, changing the label via the WebSocket API is blocked.
- Bluetooth Adapter ID (deprecated)DEPRECATED: Use the "Enable BLE proxy" option instead, which lets Home Assistant drive BLE commissioning through its own Bluetooth stack (including ESPHome BLE proxies). This option still works for now. BlueZ Bluetooth Adapter Controller ID used by the Matter Server. This is required if local commissioning via Bluetooth is used. Note: Using the Home Assistant Companion app commissioning method is recommended as it is better tested and allows to commission directly in proximity of the device itself.
- Enable BLE proxyExpose the Matter Server's BLE proxy endpoint so the Home Assistant Matter integration can drive BLE commissioning through Home Assistant's own bluetooth stack (including ESPHome BLE proxies). To actually use the BLE proxy you need Home Assistant 2026.06 or later (where the Matter integration's proxy support landed). Mutually exclusive with "Bluetooth Adapter ID" — the local adapter option is ignored with a warning when this is on.
- Matter Server environment variablesAdditional environment variables to export before starting Matter Server. Provide one entry per list item in "KEY=VALUE" format.
- Extra Matter Server argumentsThis allows to pass additional command line arguments to the Matter Server. Use "--help" to get a list of possible arguments. Note that arguments are also added by the startup script controlled by other app options.
- Matter Server versionInstall a specific "matter-server" version from npm (takes precedence over the Beta flag). Values with a major version >= 3 are ignored as leftover Python Matter Server versions; unless the Beta flag is set, the bundled version is used instead. WARNING: An older version might have an incompatible storage format! Use this feature with caution! Make sure you have a recent backup of the app!
