About

Zigbee2MQTT is an app that runs Zigbee devices through Home Assistant without the vendor's bridge or gateway. It runs on Home Assistant OS for aarch64 and amd64 systems, and it can reach USB, serial or GPIO devices as well as the Supervisor API. Its built-in frontend opens as its own page in the sidebar once ingress is enabled. A quick onboarding page appears on a brand new install, so the main settings can be chosen without editing the app configuration by hand. Joining of new devices is off by default and is switched on after the app has started. Other features include a watchdog that restarts the app after soft failures, a configuration backup made at startup, and an optional socat module that forwards a serial device over TCP.

By default the app has permit_join set to false. To allow devices to join you need to activate this after the app has started. You can now use the built-in frontend to achieve this. For details on how to enable the built-in frontent see the next section.
