About
Variable is an integration that declares generic variable entities and lets their values be set dynamically. Values can be set manually through a set action, which changes the attributes of a variable entity. They can also be filled from templates or SQL queries that run automatically whenever a chosen event fires. A separate update action forces a variable to refresh its state and attributes. The SQL queries rely on the recorder component and use its database setting. It works locally and is configured through entries in the configuration file.

From the README
The var component is a Home Assistant integration for declaring and setting generic variable entities. Variables can be set manually using the var.set service or they can be set using templates or SQL queries which will be run automatically whenever a specified event fires. The var component depends on the recorder component for up-to-date SQL queries and uses the same database setting.
