About

GL-iNet is a custom integration that connects Home Assistant to GL.iNet routers running 4.X firmware. It works locally and is set up in the UI with the router host and admin credentials. Connected devices are tracked as presence entities across wired, wireless and guest networks, with a configurable delay before a device counts as away. Clients that use randomized MAC addresses can be ignored, tracked as disabled or tracked as enabled. Sensors cover CPU temperature, load averages, memory and flash usage, uptime, WAN status and client counts. Switches control Wi-Fi interfaces, WireGuard clients, Tailscale and the router LEDs, and a button reboots the router. The router can be found automatically on the network, and a repair notice appears if the default router password is still in use.

Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

Connect

  • UsernameThis is always 'root' by default on GL-iNet devices
  • HostThe hostname or IP address of your GL-iNet router.
  • PasswordThe password you use to login to your router's admin page, this is unlikely to be the same as your WiFi password
  • Consider HomeSeconds to wait before deciding that a device is away
  • Verify SSL certificateEnable SSL certificate verification (disable for local self-signed certificates; ignored for HTTP connections).

From the README

A Home Assistant custom component for GL.iNet routers powered by their API version 4 via the gli4py library.

  • Automatic Client Tracking: Tracks devices connected directly or indirectly to your GL.iNet router across wired LAN and wireless interfaces.
  • Broad Interface Support: Identifies connections on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz, MLO, LAN, Dongle, and Guest networks.
  • Detailed Attributes: Exposes MAC address, IP address, connection interface type, and last seen timestamp (last_time_reachable).
  • Configurable Presence Timeout: Customize the "Consider Home" duration in seconds to prevent devices flapping when they enter low-power sleep.
  • Randomized MAC Handling: Choose whether clients using randomized MAC addresses are ignored (default), tracked as disabled, or tracked as enabled.
