About

UI eXtension for Home Assistant adds custom CSS styling to nearly any part of the Home Assistant interface. It has three parts: UIX Styling applies CSS to frontend elements, UIX Forge builds cards, badges, rows and sections with templates for their configuration, and UIX Broker turns browser events, keyboard shortcuts and event-bus events into declarative interactions. It comes from the heritage of card-mod. Options cover performance, such as throttling entity state updates, delaying dialog styling until the open animation ends, and turning off icon or entity picture patching on slower devices. Experimental settings can patch cards when no card config exists and apply theme styling inside supported iframe panels. Broker files can be registered and deregistered, and named foundries can be added or edited. It works locally, is set up in the UI, and includes a diagnostics download for bug reports.

Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

After setup

  • Throttle entity state updatesWhen enabled, reduces the frequency at which the dashboard root re-renders when entity states change rapidly.
  • Throttle intervalMinimum time between entity state update re-renders. Only applies when throttling is enabled.
  • Delay UIX styling for dialogs until fully shownWhen enabled, UIX styles for dialogs are applied after the dialog's open animation completes rather than immediately. This can reduce visual flicker on slower devices.
  • Disable hash template variable and updatesWhen enabled, hash (the part after # in the URL) template variable is not available and hash changes do not trigger UIX template rebinds or UIX Forge updates.
  • Disable icon styling patchingWhen enabled, disables patching of icon elements (ha-icon, ha-state-icon, ha-svg-icon) for custom styling. This can reduce CPU overhead on slower devices.
  • Disable entity picture image overridesWhen enabled, disables patching of badge and marker elements (ha-entity-marker, ha-tile-icon, state-badge, ha-user-badge, ha-person-badge) for custom entity picture image styling. This can reduce CPU overhead on slower devices.
  • Always patch ha-cardWhen enabled, always patch ha-card, even when there is no card config. This allows patching when ha-card is used in settings dashboards or custom panels.
  • Style frame panels loaded as iframeWhen enabled, apply UIX theme styling inside supported app and custom-panel frames.
