About

powerHELPER is a local sensor integration that breaks down power flows between PV, grid, battery and home. It builds on existing power sensors for grid, PV and battery, and works with values in either watts or kilowatts. From these it creates sensors for flows such as PV to home, PV to grid, PV to battery, grid to home and battery to home, plus a home power sensor. It can create missing combined or separate sensors for grid and battery, and battery power can be inverted to match the sign convention of the source. A battery priority option covers systems where PV feeds the battery before the house, and several PV systems can be added. Setup and later changes are done in the UI, and existing entries can be added or changed but not removed without recreating the integration.

  • Name

Configure grid power

  • Grid powerTotal power at the electricity meter. Can be provided in W or kW. Positive value: grid consumption. Negative value: grid feed-in.
  • Grid consumptionPower consumed from the grid. Can be provided in W or kW. The value must always be positive.
  • Grid feed-inPower fed into the grid. Can be provided in W or kW. The value must always be positive.

Configure PV power

  • PV powerCurrent power of the photovoltaic system. Can be provided in W or kW. The value must always be positive.

Configure battery power

  • Battery powerTotal battery power. Can be provided in W or kW. Positive value: battery is discharging. Negative value: battery is charging.
  • Change signPositive value: battery is charging. Negative value: battery is discharging.
  • Battery chargingPower at which the battery is being charged. Can be provided in W or kW. The value must always be positive.
  • Battery dischargingPower at which the battery is being discharged. Can be provided in W or kW. The value must always be positive.
  • Battery priorityThe battery is supplied with PV power first, and the house is supplied afterwards. For example, for batteries with a DC connection and a direct link to the PV modules. Default behavior: PV power supplies the house first and charges the battery with surplus energy.
