About

MeteoSwiss Radar shows the MeteoSwiss precipitation radar loop on a Home Assistant dashboard. The animated card runs on a swisstopo basemap and joins about 12 hours of measured radar with about 28 hours of forecast in one timeline. Lightning, snow, sleet and freezing rain can be switched on as optional overlays, though lightning exists only on past frames and precipitation types only on forecast frames. An optional rain nowcast adds a binary sensor for rain protection and sensors for nowcast status, time until rain, next rain and expected dry time, all read from the radar at the home location. Settings cover a rain threshold, a minimum on-time for the rain protection switch and an optional weather entity for hourly forecasts beyond the radar horizon. The integration needs the vendor's cloud and is set up in the UI, and the card is translated into German, French and Italian.

Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

After setup

  • Rain sensors for my homeReads the radar at the Home Assistant location every 5 min. "Next rain" looks up to 2 h ahead; the "Rain protection" switch for automations reacts to rain within 30 min.
  • Rain thresholdChoose 1 mm/h to ignore the weakest radar band (standard), or 0 to include it for sensitive awnings. Including weak echoes may cause false alarms.
  • Minimum on-timeOnly affects the "Rain protection" switch, not the status sensor. 0 = off as soon as the radar is dry.
  • Weather entity for the hourly forecastThe sensor shows which source answered: radar or forecast. Empty = radar only.

From the README

If you live in Switzerland, the MeteoSwiss app's radar loop is probably what you check before hanging the laundry outside. This puts that same loop on your Home Assistant dashboard.
