The best Home Assistant apps for iPhone in 2026

Start with the official Home Assistant app: it is free, open source and covers the most ground, including device sensors and CarPlay. Add a third-party client when you want something it does differently, such as native dashboards, a watch-first app or a wall panel. Several of these run side by side with the official app.

Start with the official app

The Home Assistant app by Nabu Casa is free and open source (Apache 2.0). It shows your Home Assistant dashboards as they look in the browser, so custom cards from HACS work, and it adds native features around them: device sensors such as battery and location, actionable notifications, widgets, Control Center controls, Live Activities, an Apple Watch app, CarPlay and Shortcuts. It needs iOS 16.4 or newer. Many people keep it installed even when they use another app day to day, because it is the one that reports the phone's sensors to Home Assistant.

Pick a second app by what you need

Third-party apps do not replace everything the official app does. Each one below takes a different approach; the descriptions follow the apps' own App Store listings.

  • Native dashboards built from your entities: CasaRay, Haven, Hemera, Mikaze, Stuga and Vulpo draw their own native screens instead of the web dashboard. They differ in depth: CasaRay starts from a home summary with energy and presence, Stuga reads your setup with no configuration at all, and Vulpo adds an automation editor, widgets, Live Activities, a standalone watch app and a 3D room view.

  • Your existing dashboards, drawn natively: HA Dash renders your Lovelace sections dashboards with native controls and runs on very old iPads (iOS 9 and newer). It is open source.

  • Widgets and quick controls first

Domika keeps dashboards compact and concentrates on Home Screen widgets, Lock Screen and Control Center buttons and critical alerts; its listing says it does not cover device setup or automations.

  • Apple Watch first

Wrist Assistant builds custom watch pages from the iPhone, with cameras, scenes and scripts on the wrist.

  • A wall-mounted iPad

HomePad, HASS Kiosk and HA Kiosk are always-on panel apps. HomePad also works with Apple Home, HA Kiosk shows any web page full screen.

  • Apple Home instead of a Home Assistant app: the HomeKit Bridge integration in Home Assistant puts your devices into Apple's Home app and any HomeKit app such as Controller for HomeKit.

Through Apple Home

The HomeKit Bridge integration exposes Home Assistant entities to Apple Home, which brings Siri, the Home app, Apple Watch and home hubs along. The trade-offs: a bridge holds at most 150 accessories, some device types such as cameras, locks and TVs need their own accessory mode, and only the device types HomeKit supports come across, so energy data, many sensor types and Home Assistant dashboards stay behind.

Where Vulpo fits

Vulpo is a native app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch with 40+ card types, a native automation editor, eight widget types, Live Activities with buttons, a standalone watch app and Vulpo Lumen, a LiDAR 3D view of your home. It needs iOS 26 or newer and does not render custom Lovelace cards; the official app is the better choice for those, and for CarPlay and Android. Vulpo is made by the publisher of this site.

Questions

Can I use the official app and a third-party app at the same time?

Yes. Each app signs in to Home Assistant on its own, and apps that register as mobile app devices appear as separate devices. A common setup keeps the official app for device sensors and notifications and uses another app for daily control.

Is there a free Home Assistant app for iPhone?

Yes. The official Home Assistant app is free and open source, and most third-party clients in the table have a free version.

Which apps are no longer maintained?

Apps without an update for more than 18 months are left out of this guide, for example Ovio and The Home Remote, last updated in December 2024 and January 2025.
