IKEA BILRESA remote

About

IKEA BILRESA Firmware Updater keeps IKEA BILRESA Matter remotes awake while their firmware updates. It runs locally in the background, watches the update state of each remote through the Matter Server, and sends repeated stay-active requests until the transfer finishes. The built-in Matter integration still provides the firmware update entity and downloads the update, so this integration only handles the waking part. On the same device it adds a binary sensor showing when keep-awake is active, sensors for OTA update state, ICD operating mode and last promised active duration, and a button to trigger keep-awake manually. An option sets how often the keep-awake request is re-sent, in seconds. It is set up in the UI by confirming the Matter Server URL, and it detects updates started from other controllers or already in progress after a restart.

From the README

This Home Assistant custom integration assists firmware updates to IKEA BILRESA Matter-over-Thread remotes (dual-button and scroll-wheel variants) and reliably finishes the firmware transfer without making you press buttons to prevent the remote sleeping.

It works for any firmware version your device reports an update for (for example 1.8.5 → 1.9.15). Home Assistant's built-in Matter integration already handles the OTA download from the CSA Distributed Compliance Ledger (DCL); this integration keeps the sleepy remote awake so that transfer can complete.

  • Hands-free end-to-end firmware update via the native HA Firmware Update entity
  • Detects updates the moment they start, from any controller, and stops keep-awake when the device returns to idle
  • Picks up updates already in progress after an HA restart
  • Survives transient Thread radio dropouts and retries through a transfer
  • Keep awake now button for manual nudging or testing
  • Feature-detected StayActiveRequest support (falls back to button-press instructions if the device does not accept the command)
