About
Tools for Assist adds internet search and other optional tools for LLM-backed Assist in Home Assistant. Web search can run through Brave, Tavily or a self-hosted SearXNG server, and further tools cover Google Places locations, Google Routes travel times, Wikipedia, YouTube search, weather forecasts and basic utilities such as a calculator and unit converter. Each tool is optional, and some need API keys that can be used on free tiers. A caching layer reduces API usage and latency for repeated requests within a 2-hour period. A customisable clone of the built-in Assist tool API can also be enabled, which allows editing the hidden prompt and turning off default tools. It relies on the vendors' cloud services, is configured through the Home Assistant interface, and needs the Marketplace or HACS to install.

- Search DepthFast and Ultra-fast are beta options that trade relevance for speed.
- Include Generated AnswerAlso return a short Tavily-generated answer alongside the search results.
- Include Full Page ContentReturn the full extracted page content instead of Tavily's snippets. The content arrives as markdown, and the repeated whitespace is collapsed before it is returned. Full pages are large, so use Maximum Characters Per Result to cap them.
- Country (optional)Boosts results from that country. Sent on a general web search only, so a news or finance search does not use it, and it is not sent with the fast or ultra-fast search depths.
- Maximum Characters Per ResultCaps the characters returned per result. Tavily has no option for this, so the integration applies the cap after the search. Set 0 for no cap.
- Chunks Per ResultHow many content chunks Tavily returns per result. Honored on the basic, advanced and fast search depths. Ultra-fast returns a single summary per result instead.
