About

Adaptive Cover is an integration that moves vertical, horizontal and tilted blinds based on the sun's position. It calculates a cover position that filters out direct sunlight when the sun is within a set field of view of the window. It offers three strategy modes: basic, climate, and security, where climate mode takes presence, indoor and outdoor temperature, weather, lux and irradiance into account. Security mode closes covers when nobody is home, and manual control of a cover is detected and left alone for a set duration. It adds covers, sensors, a binary sensor for sun in front of the window, switches, selects, buttons and scenes, plus an optional hub that controls all blinds together. It runs locally and is configured in the UI.

Automation

  • Minimum position adjustmentMinimum change in position required before adjusting the cover's position
  • Minimum interval between position changesMinimum time interval between position changes; minimum is 2 minutes
  • Starting timeStarting time for each day; before this time, the cover will remain stationary
  • Entity indicating starting timeEntity representing starting time state, overriding the fixed start time set above. Useful for automating the start time with an entity
  • Duration of manual overrideThe duration of manual control before resetting to automatic control
  • Reset Manual override durationOption to reset the manual override duration after each manual adjustment; if disabled, the duration only applies to the first manual adjustment
  • End timeEnding time for each day; after this time, the cover will remain stationary
  • Entity indicating ending timeEntity representing ending time state, overriding the fixed end time set above. Useful for automating the end time with an entity
  • Manual override threshold
  • Ignore intermediate positions during manual override (opening and closing)
  • Never auto-correct after manual overrideManual control on covers where this is enabled is only cleared by an explicit action, never by the automatic timer.
  • Window or door sensor (optional)Contact sensor for a window or door. While it reports open, the integration will not close this cover automatically. An unknown or unavailable sensor counts as open, so a flat battery degrades the protection instead of closing on an open door.
  • Always adjust position to sunset default at end time; Useful if end time is before actual sunset
  • Pre-close notice delaySeconds between the adaptive_cover_will_close event and the actual move when the integration closes a cover automatically. Manual commands, scenes and security mode are never delayed. 0 disables the feature.
  • Pre-close notice thresholdPosition at or below which a move counts as closing. The notice only fires when the cover moves from above this value to at or below it.

From the README

This Custom-Integration provides sensors for vertical and horizontal blinds based on the sun's position by calculating the position to filter out direct sunlight.

This integration builds upon the template sensor from this forum post Automatic Blinds

  • Individual service devices for vertical, horizontal and tilted covers
  • Three strategy modes: basic, climate, security
  • Binary Sensor to track when the sun is in front of the window
  • Sensors for start and end time
  • Auto manual override detection
  • Climate Mode
  • Weather condition based operation
  • Presence based operation
  • Switch to toggle climate mode
  • Sensor for displaying the operation modus (winter, intermediate, summer)
  • Diagnostic sensor exposing all intermediate climate decision values
  • Security Mode (v1.9+)
