It has 57 installs sharing analytics, works locally and was last updated October 26, 2026. Modbus Local Gateway connects Home Assistant to Modbus devices through a Modbus TCP gateway or a serial port. Register and coil layouts are described in YAML device files, which the integration maps to entities such as sensors, switches, numbers, selects, texts and date or time entities. It supports both read-only monitoring and read/write control, and everything runs locally. The gateway can be Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU over TCP, or a Home Assistant Connect AUX-2 that exposes its RS-232 serial ports over USB, so no network gateway is needed in that case. Several devices can sit behind one gateway, each appearing as its own device with an optional name prefix and an option to mark it as expected to be offline at times. No vendor cloud in between. - **From the Marketplace**: Installed through the Marketplace, formerly HACS. - **Actively maintained**: Its author released or pushed a change in the last six months. ## Setting it up Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services. ### Modbus gateway - **Gateway type**: An AUX-2 reaches this integration over USB and proxies a serial port of its own: pick it when the Modbus devices are wired to that port rather than to the network. ### Home Assistant Connect AUX-2 - **Device**: Only AUX-2 devices adopted in Home Assistant show up here, with the serial ports they expose. ### Serial port - **Baud rate** - **Data bits** - **Serial port**: AUX-2 ports are RS-232: a Modbus bus on RS-485 needs an adapter between it and this port. - **Parity**: None, even or odd, as the devices on the line expect. - **Stop bits** ### Modbus gateway - **Connection type** - **Host** - **Use the pre 2026.02.0 entity ids**: Only applies to entities created from now on. Existing entity ids are never changed by this integration. - **Port** - **Restore entity ids of this integration**: Moves the entities this integration named after the gateway host back onto the entity id they had before that prefix existed.
