# VIGI & InSight Cameras

> VIGI & InSight Cameras is a Marketplace integration for Home Assistant. It has 64 installs sharing analytics, works locally and was last updated October 23, 2026.

VIGI & InSight Cameras is a custom integration for local control of TP-Link VIGI and InSight cameras. It adds a live RTSP stream, detection sensors for motion, person, tamper, intrusion and line crossing, and a snapshot image of the last detection. Detection events arrive through an ONVIF subscription instead of polling. It also provides controls for the spotlight, night vision mode, alarm, and pan, tilt and zoom with presets, plus announcements spoken or played through the camera speaker. Storage sensors report SD card usage and recording state. It can run standalone or alongside Frigate, in which case stream and detection handling can be turned off while the camera-specific controls stay available, and setup is done in the UI.

## Supports

- **Works locally**: Talks to your devices on your own network. No vendor cloud in between.
- **From the Marketplace**: Installed through the Marketplace, formerly HACS.
- **Actively maintained**: Its author released or pushed a change in the last six months.

## Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

### Add VIGI or InSight Camera

- **IP Address**
- **Username**
- **Password**

### Name this camera

- **Camera name**

### After setup

- **Camera stream (RTSP live feed entity)**
- **Use main stream (HD, stream1)**: When off (default), the sub-stream (stream2) is used for live view — lower resolution but fast startup and smooth playback on Raspberry Pi and other low-powered hardware. When on, the main HD stream (stream1) is used — full resolution but requires more CPU and network headroom to transcode without buffering. Recommended only on more powerful hardware.
- **Detection events (motion, person, intrusion, and other binary sensors)**: Disable if Frigate handles detection — this also stops ONVIF event subscriptions.
- **Image controls (brightness, contrast, WDR, flip, and other camera tuning — disabled by default)**: Adds camera tuning controls to the Configuration section of the device. Entities are disabled by default — enable them individually from the device page. Most users leave this off.

## Troubleshooting

- **Diagnostics**: Downloads a diagnostics file to attach to a bug report.

## From the README

> Full local control of TP-Link VIGI and InSight cameras — real-time smart detection, PTZ, two-way audio announcements, image configuration, and deep camera management. No cloud account. No subscription. No dependency on TP-Link servers.
>
> - Real-time detection — motion, person, tamper, intrusion, line crossing, smart detection fire within seconds via ONVIF pull-point subscription — not the 30 s poll cycle
> - Split detection sensors — individual binary sensors for vehicle, audio anomaly, loitering, scene change, object left/taken, area entry, area exit (requires OpenAPI)
> - Last detection image — snapshot entity per camera updated on every detection event; uses the camera's own event-captured image when SD card capture is configured, otherwise falls back to a live RTSP…
