# Illuminance

> Illuminance is a Marketplace integration for Home Assistant. It has 1.2k installs sharing analytics, works locally and was last updated May 22, 2026.

Illuminance is a custom integration that creates a sensor estimating outdoor illuminance in Home Assistant. The estimate comes from either the sun's elevation or the time of day, depending on the chosen mode. The normal and irradiance modes use a US Naval Observatory algorithm based on sun elevation, while the simple mode ramps a value up and down around sunrise and sunset. The value can be adjusted using current weather conditions or cloud coverage taken from another existing weather entity. Options cover the mode, the weather data source, the update period in minutes, and an illuminance divider used when no weather data is available. It works locally, is added as a custom repository, and is set up in the UI, though YAML configuration and a reload action also exist.
