# Rain Radar

> Rain Radar is a Marketplace integration for Home Assistant. It has 91 installs sharing analytics, needs the vendor's cloud and was last updated October 21, 2026.

Rain Radar is an integration and dashboard card for rain monitoring in the Nordic countries. It combines Regnradar radar imagery with a selectable forecast provider, either MET Norway, SMHI or DMI, and relies on cloud services. Binary sensors report raining now, rain soon and radar coverage, while sensors cover precipitation now, rain risk, rain arrival time, data age, provider and latest radar time. Settings include the rain threshold, the look-ahead window for rain soon, the rain risk horizon and the radar source for Sweden, Denmark or the wider Nordic area. The dashboard card is bundled and shows radar frames, coverage and forecast markers, and more than one location can be configured. Rain risk values should only be compared within the same provider, since DMI reports whether the threshold is expected to be met rather than a probability.

## Supports

- **Uses the vendor's cloud**: Needs an internet connection and an account with the vendor.
- **From the Marketplace**: Installed through the Marketplace, formerly HACS.
- **Actively maintained**: Its author released or pushed a change in the last six months.

## Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

### Rain Radar

- **Location name**
- **Latitude**
- **Longitude**
- **Forecast provider**: Provider used for rain arrival, rain soon, and rain risk sensors. Radar imagery is fetched through Regnradar.
- **Radar source**: Regnradar radar source used for the map overlay. Sweden uses SMHI radar frames through Regnradar, Denmark uses DMI radar frames through Regnradar, and Nordic uses MET frames with forecast frames when available.
- **Rain threshold**: Minimum precipitation intensity in mm/h that counts as rain. This controls raining now, rain soon, and arrival calculations.
- **Rain soon window**: How far ahead, in minutes, Rain Radar should look before turning on the rain soon binary sensor.
- **Sampling radius**: Area around the configured location that forecast providers may use when sampling rain data. MET Norway, SMHI, and DMI currently use point/grid-point forecasts, so this is reserved for future provider improvements.
- **Rain risk horizon**: How many hours ahead to inspect for the rain risk sensor. The default 12 hours matches the previous MET Rain Risk behavior.

## From the README

> Rain Radar is a custom Home Assistant integration for Nordic rain monitoring. It combines Regnradar radar imagery with selectable MET Norway, SMHI, or DMI point forecasts so dashboards and automations can answer practical questions such as whether it is raining now, whether rain is expected soon, and how high the rain risk is in the next hours.
>
> The integration includes Home Assistant entities, a config flow, options flow, diagnostics, localized Home Assistant setup text, authenticated radar image endpoints, and a bundled Lovelace dashboard card.
>
> - Monitor current rain intensity at a configured location.
> - Detect when rain is expected inside a configurable look-ahead window.
> - Estimate how many minutes remain until rain arrives.
> - Track the highest forecast rain probability for the configured horizon.
> - Show radar frames, coverage, forecast markers, and location context in the bundled dashboard card.
> - Use radar coverage, data age, provider status, and latest radar time as diagnostic signals.
> - Configure one or more locations through the Home Assistant UI.
> - Keep the card bundled with the integration, with no separate frontend repository required.
