# Strømkalkulator

> Strømkalkulator is a Marketplace integration for Home Assistant. It has 71 installs sharing analytics, works locally and was last updated October 18, 2026.

Strømkalkulator calculates grid rent, electricity subsidy and Norgespris for Home Assistant. It adds sensors for day and night energy tariff, capacity tier, peak demand, government fees, electricity subsidy and spot price after subsidy, plus binary sensors for capacity warning and whether Norgespris or the subsidy is active. Input comes from a power meter, a spot price sensor and optionally an energy meter, a provider price sensor and an export power sensor for solar panels. A button generates an invoice verification report, and repair notices flag problems such as a frozen energy meter or outdated spot prices. Grid company, property type and tax zone are chosen in the UI, and a custom grid company can use its own tariffs and capacity tiers. It runs locally.

## Supports

- **Works locally**: Talks to your devices on your own network. No vendor cloud in between.
- **From the Marketplace**: Installed through the Marketplace, formerly HACS.
- **Actively maintained**: Its author released or pushed a change in the last six months.

## Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

### Strømkalkulator

- **Grid company**
- **Property type**: Residence: Subsidy up to 5000 kWh/month, Norgespris up to 5000 kWh/month. Holiday home: No subsidy, Norgespris up to 1000 kWh/month. Holiday home (permanent residence): Same as residence (Regulation § 11).
- **I have Norgespris**: Enable if you have ordered Norgespris at Elhub (minside.elhub.no), not from your grid company or electricity provider. Fixed price (50 øre/kWh in southern Norway, 40 øre in northern Norway) for the first 5000 kWh per month (1000 kWh for holiday homes). Consumption above the limit is billed at spot price.

### Select sensors

- **Power meter (W)**: Sensor showing current power consumption in watts, e.g. from HAN port, Tibber Pulse, or P1 meter.
- **Spot price sensor (NOK/kWh)**: Sensor with current spot price in NOK/kWh. Usually 'Current price' from the Nord Pool integration.
- **Spot price sensor delivers prices incl. VAT**: Leave off for HA-core nordpool integration (delivers excl. VAT). Turn on if your sensor already includes VAT (e.g. the older custom\_components/nordpool with VAT=true, or a custom template sensor).
- **Energy meter sensor (kWh, optional)**: Cumulative kWh counter from the AMS smart meter. Recommended for exact invoice numbers. See docs/input-sensorer.md for details.
- **Electricity provider sensor (optional)**: Sensor with the total price from your electricity provider (e.g. Tibber 'Electricity price'). Only used to populate the 'Total price (electricity contract)' sensor for comparison against your actual contract. Does not affect any other calculation. Skip if you have spot price directly or Norgespris.
- **Export power sensor (W, optional)**: Power sensor for export to the grid (OBIS 2.7.0) in watts, for prosumers with solar panels only. Used to calculate export revenue and net monthly cost. Skip if you don't have solar panels.

### Main fuse size

- **Main fuse**: The rows are quoted verbatim from the grid company price list. Note that the rate can depend on system voltage (230 V or 400 V).

### Custom pricing

- **Tax zone**: Determines VAT and consumption tax. The VAT exemption follows county, not price area: 'Nord-Norge' covers Nordland and Troms, 'Tiltakssonen' covers Finnmark and Nord-Troms (VAT Act § 6-6). Everyone else, including NO3 (Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal), selects 'Sør-Norge' and pays 25% VAT.
- **Energy tariff day (NOK/kWh, excl. VAT and taxes)**: Grid tariff only, for daytime. Find the amount listed as 'energiledd' or 'overføring' on your price list, before consumption tax, Enova fee and VAT.
- **Energy tariff night/weekend (NOK/kWh, excl. VAT and taxes)**: Grid tariff only, for night/weekend. If your grid company uses a flat rate, enter the same value as for daytime.
- **Capacity tiers from your price list (optional)**: The fixed grid fee as your grid company lists it: one tier per row in the price list, written as a kW limit and NOK/month incl. VAT separated by a colon, with tiers separated by commas. The form is 'kW limit:NOK per month,kW limit:NOK per month', the kW limits must increase, and the top tier covers everything above the limit below it. Take the amounts from your own price list or grid invoice. No example figures are shown here: there is no price list behind 'Custom', so any figures would be another grid company's prices. Leave the field empty and capacity tier, monthly grid rent, monthly total, estimated monthly cost and accumulated cost stay unknown. That is deliberate: a guessed fixed fee looks like a price without being one.

- **Electricity provider sensor (optional)**: Sensor with the total price from your electricity provider (e.g. Tibber 'Electricity price'). Only used to populate the 'Total price (electricity contract)' sensor for comparison against your actual contract. Does not affect any other calculation. - **Energy tariff day (NOK/kWh, excl. VAT and taxes)**: Grid rent excl. VAT and taxes. Leave the field empty to follow the grid company's price list, and the rate updates itself when the list changes. Enter a number and yours applies until you clear the field again.
- **Energy tariff night/weekend (NOK/kWh, excl. VAT and taxes)**: Grid rent excl. VAT and taxes. Same rule as for day: an empty field follows the price list, a filled one overrides it. Use the same value as day for a flat rate.
- **Capacity warning threshold (kW)**: Warn when margin to next capacity tier is below this value. Default: 2.0 kW.
- **Frozen energy meter threshold (hours)**: Warn when the energy meter has not increased for this many hours. Default: 3. Raise it for a cabin or site that sits idle for stretches, otherwise it warns every time the main breaker is off.
