# IPMI connector

> IPMI connector is a Marketplace integration for Home Assistant. It has 386 installs sharing analytics, works locally and was last updated October 21, 2026.

IPMI connector is a Marketplace integration that monitors and controls servers with an IPMI management controller. It talks to the controller locally, using the ipmi-server addon, a standalone HTTP container, or the python-ipmi library as a fallback. Each server gets a power binary sensor, a power on and soft shutdown switch, and buttons for power on, power off, power cycle, power reset and soft shutdown. Sensors are discovered from the controller, covering readings such as temperature, fan, voltage and power, and power sensors can get matching energy sensors for the Energy dashboard. Options cover scan interval, which sensor types are created, connection backend preference, and a delay that keeps the power switch off after a soft shutdown. A custom command action is available when the addon or standalone API is used, and setup happens in the UI with discovery on the network.

## Supports

- **Works locally**: Talks to your devices on your own network. No vendor cloud in between.
- **Found by itself**: Home Assistant spots it on the network and offers to add it.
- **From the Marketplace**: Installed through the Marketplace, formerly HACS.
- **Actively maintained**: Its author released or pushed a change in the last six months.

## Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

### Connect to the IPMI server

- **Alias**
- **Host**: BMC hostname or IP address
- **Password**
- **Port**: IPMI / RMCP port (usually 623)
- **Username**
- **Configure advanced options**: Addon URL, interface, Kg key, privilege level, sensor filters, and connection backend

### Advanced IPMI settings

- **Kg Encryption Key (hex, max 40 chars)**: Optional. Requires the ipmi-server addon; not supported by the python-ipmi fallback.
- **Privilege Level**
- **ipmi-server host**: On Home Assistant OS use the addon hostname, not localhost.
- **ipmi-server port**
- **ipmitool interface**: Usually lanplus. Use auto to let ipmitool decide.
- **Extra ipmitool parameters**: Optional raw ipmitool arguments (for example cipher suite).
- **Connection backend preference**: auto = try addon first then RMCP (historical default). rmcp = python-ipmi only (skips addon probes). Warning: the send\_command service requires the addon and will not work with rmcp.

### Sensor filters

- **Ignore FRU checksum errors**
- **Sensor types to discover**: Only selected types are created for newly discovered sensors. Leave empty for power-only monitoring on limited BMCs (for example Sipeed NanoKVM).
- **Create energy sensors from power readings**: Requires power in sensor types. Each discovered power sensor also gets a kWh energy sensor for the Energy dashboard (enabled by default).

Also asked when changing the connection.

### Reauthenticate IPMI server

- **Username**
- **Password**

### Reconfigure IPMI server

- **Alias**
- **Host**
- **Password**
- **Port**
- **Username**
- **Configure advanced options**

### Advanced IPMI settings

- **Kg Encryption Key (hex, max 40 chars)**
- **Privilege Level**
- **ipmi-server host**
- **ipmi-server port**
- **ipmitool interface**
- **Extra ipmitool parameters**
- **Connection backend preference**: auto = try addon first then RMCP (historical default). rmcp = python-ipmi only (skips addon probes). Warning: the send\_command service requires the addon and will not work with rmcp.

### After setup

- **Scan Interval (seconds)**
- **Sensor types to discover**: Only selected types are created for newly discovered sensors. Leave empty for power-only monitoring on limited BMCs (for example Sipeed NanoKVM).
- **Connection backend preference**: auto = try addon first then RMCP (historical default). addon = addon only. rmcp = python-ipmi only (skips addon probes). Warning: the send\_command service requires the addon and will not work with rmcp.
- **Create energy sensors from power readings**: Requires power in sensor types. Each discovered power sensor also gets a kWh energy sensor for the Energy dashboard (enabled by default). Energy entities are unavailable when power is not monitored, this option is off, or the power sensor entity is disabled.
- **Power switch off delay (seconds)**: After soft shutdown, keep the power switch off for this many seconds even if the BMC still reports power on. 0 disables (switch follows live BMC state immediately). Does not affect the State sensor.

## Entities

- **Binary sensors**: Power
- **Buttons**: Power on, Power off, Power cycle, Power reset, Soft shutdown
- **Sensors**: Connection backend
- **Switches**: Power on/Soft shutdown

## Actions

- **Send custom command**: Sends a custom ipmitool-style command through the ipmi-server addon or standalone HTTP API only (not available on RMCP-only connections).
  Fields: Server, Command, Ignore errors

## Troubleshooting

- **Diagnostics**: Downloads a diagnostics file to attach to a bug report.
