# Battery Notes

> Battery Notes is a Marketplace integration for Home Assistant. It has 15k installs sharing analytics, works locally and was last updated October 26, 2026.

Battery Notes is an integration that adds battery details such as type and replacement dates to devices in Home Assistant. It tracks the battery type, when the battery was last replaced, when a battery is low against device or global thresholds, and when a device has not reported its level for a while. A built-in battery library identifies the battery type for known devices and discovers them automatically, and notes can also be added manually. Each note gets a low battery binary sensor, a replaced button, and sensors for Battery+, battery type and last replaced date. Actions check for low batteries, stale reports and overdue replacements, and events from these checks can drive automations and notifications. Per-device options include templates for non-standard battery levels, retaining state for sleeping devices, and filtering outlier drops. It runs locally and is set up in the UI.

## Supports

- **Works locally**: Talks to your devices on your own network. No vendor cloud in between.
- **Device triggers**: Its devices can start automations directly.
- **From the Marketplace**: Installed through the Marketplace, formerly HACS.
- **Actively maintained**: Its author released or pushed a change in the last six months.

## Setting it up

Install it from the Marketplace and restart Home Assistant, then add it under Settings, Devices and services.

### Battery

- **Battery type**
- **Battery quantity**
- **Note**
- **Battery low threshold**: 0 will use the global default threshold.
- **Battery increase threshold**: The threshold is the difference in increase between previous and current battery level. 0 will use the global default threshold.
- **Battery percentage template**: Template to create a battery percentage. Only needed for devices that do not have a standard battery percentage.
- **Battery low template**: Template to determine a battery is low, should return true if low. Only needed for non-standard battery levels.
- **Retain state**: Retain the last battery state when the source entity is unavailable. Useful for devices that sleep and become unavailable.
- **Filter outliers**: Filter out large battery level drops, reducing falsely firing events on devices that erroneously report levels occasionally.

### After setup

- **Show all devices**: Show all devices in the device dropdown, otherwise only those with batteries will be shown.
- **Hide battery**: Hide the standard battery when adding Battery+.
- **Round battery**: Round Battery+ to whole percentages.
- **Default battery low threshold**: The default threshold where a devices battery\_low entity is set to true and the battery\_notes\_battery\_threshold event is fired if the battery is below this threshold, can be overriden per device in device configuration.
- **Default battery increase threshold**: The default threshold where the battery\_notes\_battery\_increased event is fired, use this event for battery replaced automations. The threshold is the difference in increase between previous and current battery level, can be overriden per device in device configuration.
- **Auto discovery**: Auto discovery of devices that are in the library.
- **Enable battery replaced**: Enable the battery replaced button on each battery note.
- **Hide battery low**: Hide the battery low binary sensor when a battery percentage is available, avoiding duplication on generated dashboards.
- **User library**: If specified then a user library file will be searched prior to the main library, the user library must be in the same format as the library and placed in config/.storage/battery\_notes.
