# Sofar

> Sofar is a built-in integration for Home Assistant. It has 17 installs sharing analytics and works locally.

Sofar is a built-in integration that connects Home Assistant to a Sofar inverter over Modbus TCP. It works locally and is set up in the UI with the host, port and Modbus unit ID of the inverter or of the bridge it is connected through. It provides sensors for power and other readings, binary sensors for fault and status conditions, buttons for an IV curve scan and an RTC sync, selects for charger use mode and EPS mode, and switches. Actions set an active power limit as a percentage of rated power and a feed-in limit for grid export. Two more actions set passive mode power and timeout, and they apply only to inverters with battery storage. Connection settings can be changed later without removing the integration, and a diagnostics file can be downloaded for bug reports.

## Supports

- **Works locally**: Talks to your devices on your own network. No vendor cloud in between.
- **Set up in the UI**: Add it in Settings, Devices and services. Nothing to download.
- **Adds new devices**: New devices show up without setting it up again.
- **Cleans up devices**: Devices that are gone are removed by themselves.
- **Change settings later**: Its connection settings can change without removing it.
- **Platinum quality**: Home Assistant's own rating of its code and setup experience.
- **Updated with Home Assistant**: Ships and updates with every Home Assistant release.

## Setting it up

It is added under Settings, Devices and services, with Add integration.

### Connect

- **Host**: The hostname or IP address of the inverter, or of the Modbus TCP bridge it's connected through.
- **Port**: The Modbus TCP port to connect on.
- **Modbus unit ID**: The inverter's Modbus unit ID, also called its Modbus device address.

Also asked when changing the connection.

## Entities

- **Binary sensors**: Active power limit enabled, AC output fault, Arc fault (AFCI), Battery fault, Battery pack communication fault, Combiner box fault, Communication fault, DC bus fault, Derating, Fan fault, Grid fault, Input fuse open, and 6 more
- **Buttons**: IV curve scan, RTC sync
- **Selects**: Charger use mode, EPS mode
- **Sensors**: Active power limit, Active power load system, Active power off-grid total, Active power output L1, Active power output L1N, Active power output L2, Active power output L2N, Active power output L3, Active power output total, Active power PCC L1, Active power PCC L1N, Active power PCC L2, and 126 more

## Actions

- **Set active power limit**: Caps the inverter's own output as a percentage of its rated power, which is the power rating on the inverter's nameplate, usually also in its model name.
  Fields: Inverter, Enabled, Limit
- **Set feed-in limit**: Limits how much power the inverter exports to the grid.
  Fields: Inverter, Maximum power, Mode
- **Set passive mode power**: Commands the passive-mode setpoints. Only for inverters with battery storage.
Fields: Maximum battery power, Minimum battery power, Inverter, Grid power
- **Set passive mode timeout**: Sets how long a passive-mode command holds, and what the inverter does when it expires. Only for inverters with battery storage.
  Fields: Timeout action, Inverter, Timeout

## Troubleshooting

- **Diagnostics**: Downloads a diagnostics file to attach to a bug report.
