# Slack

> Slack is a built-in integration for Home Assistant. It has 696 installs sharing analytics and needs the vendor's cloud.

## Supports

- **Uses the vendor's cloud**: Needs an internet connection and an account with the vendor.
- **Set up in the UI**: Add it in Settings, Devices and services. Nothing to download.
- **Updated with Home Assistant**: Ships and updates with every Home Assistant release.

## Setting it up

It is added under Settings, Devices and services, with Add integration.

### Connect

- **API key**: The Slack API token to use for sending Slack messages.
- **Default channel**: The channel to post to if no channel is specified when sending a message.
- **Icon**: Use one of the Slack emojis as an icon for the supplied username.
- **Username**: Home Assistant will post to Slack using the username specified.
