# 1-Wire

> 1-Wire is a built-in integration for Home Assistant. It has 355 installs sharing analytics and works locally.

1-Wire is a built-in integration that connects Home Assistant to 1-Wire devices through an OWServer instance. It works locally and is set up in the UI by entering the host and port of the OWServer. It adds binary sensors, selects, sensors and switches, including humidity and voltage readings, thermocouple temperature, a temperature resolution select, and switches for current A/D control and programmed input-output. An option sets sensor precision, where lower precision gives faster response with less accuracy. Device-specific options can be customized or reset to defaults. Home Assistant can discover it on the network, add new devices automatically, and remove devices that are gone.

## Supports

- **Works locally**: Talks to your devices on your own network. No vendor cloud in between.
- **Set up in the UI**: Add it in Settings, Devices and services. Nothing to download.
- **Found by itself**: Home Assistant spots it on the network and offers to add it.
- **Adds new devices**: New devices show up without setting it up again.
- **Cleans up devices**: Devices that are gone are removed by themselves.
- **Change settings later**: Its connection settings can change without removing it.
- **Silver quality**: Home Assistant's own rating of its code and setup experience.
- **Updated with Home Assistant**: Ships and updates with every Home Assistant release.

## Setting it up

Home Assistant usually finds it on the network and offers to add it. It can also be added by hand under Settings, Devices and services.

### Set OWServer instance details

- **Host**: The hostname or IP address of your OWServer instance.
- **Port**: The port of your OWServer instance (default is 4304).

Also asked when changing the connection.

### After setup

- **Sensor precision**: The lower the precision, the faster the sensor will respond, but with less accuracy.
- **Reset all device customizations**: Use this to reset all device-specific options to default values.
- **Customize specific devices**: Customize behavior of individual devices.
