# Kodi

> Kodi is a built-in integration for Home Assistant. It has 6.9k installs sharing analytics and works locally.

Kodi is a built-in Home Assistant integration that connects to a Kodi media player over the local network. It adds the player as a media entity and provides a notifier platform for sending messages to it. Home Assistant can discover the system on the network and offer to add it, and setup is done in the UI with host, port, optional login details and an SSL option. One action adds music to the default playlist, and another calls a Kodi JSONRPC method with optional parameters. Results of a method call are returned as a Home Assistant event, which lets automations react to them. Turned on and turned off device triggers can start automations directly.
