# Environment Canada

> Environment Canada is a built-in integration for Home Assistant. It has 3.3k installs sharing analytics and needs the vendor's cloud.

Environment Canada is a built-in integration that brings weather data from Environment Canada into Home Assistant. It provides a weather entity with a forecast, a radar camera, and a set of sensors covering items such as current condition, high and low temperature, dew point, humidex, air quality index and advisories. The radar camera has options for loop frame rate, map radius, radar type, opacity, legend, timestamp and how many minutes of past and future frames to show. The future frames come from a short-term forecast layer and apply only to rain and snow. Actions retrieve alerts, forecasts and the precipitation forecast series, and another action sets the radar type. Setup happens in the interface, where a location and language are chosen, and the integration needs the vendor's cloud.

## Setting it up

It is added under Settings, Devices and services, with Add integration.

### Environment Canada: weather location and language

- **Weather information language**
- **Latitude**
- **Longitude**
- **Weather station**

### After setup

- **Loop frame rate**: Frame rate of the radar animation
- **Smooth radar image**: Smooth the radar image instead of leaving it pixelated (uses more bandwidth)
- **Map radius**: Radius of the radar map in kilometres
- **Colour scale**: Number of colours in the rain/snow radar scale (has no effect on the precipitation type layer)
- **Radar type**
- **Show legend**
- **Radar opacity**: Opacity of the radar layer overlay (0-100)
- **Past minutes**: How far back the radar animation goes, in minutes (0 for the full available history)
- **Future minutes**: Extend the radar loop past now using Environment Canada's short-term forecast (nowcast) layer, in minutes (up to 72, the limit of the available data). Only affects Rain and Snow; no effect on Precipitation type
- **Show timestamp**
