# M3 Cards

> M3 Cards is a dashboard card for Home Assistant. It has 52 GitHub stars and was last updated October 20, 2026.

M3 Cards is a set of Material 3-inspired dashboard cards for Home Assistant, built natively without button-card or card-mod. A single bundle registers 44 cards that share one design language, grouped by topic such as energy, climate, lighting and media, presence and safety, household, and system maintenance. The cards have a frosted glass look that can be turned off for solid themes, and mode pills animate their shape when selected. Climate cards include a temperature stepper that takes its step size and limits from the entity, plus optional external sensors, window and battery chips, and preset support. Every card has a graphical editor, so YAML is not required, and card height can be set to match tiles in stacks and grids. String fields in each card accept Jinja2 templates that update live over the websocket, which avoids template-sensor helpers. It installs through the Marketplace or by adding the bundle file manually, and the project is marked as beta.

> Material 3–inspired, native Lovelace cards for Home Assistant — built with TypeScript + Lit, without any dependency on button-card, card-mod, mod-card, or stack-in-card. A single bundle (m3-cards.js) registers 44 cards, all sharing one design language.
>
> - Frosted glass card look (can be turned off for solid themes), shared design language across all cards
> - Mode pills with shape-morph animation (round → rounded rectangle)
> - Temperature stepper with step size/limits taken from the entity
> - Optional external temperature/humidity sensors, window and battery chips
> - Preset support (tap to cycle, as its own row or as a pill in the mode row)
> - Configurable card height + full height matching in horizontal-stack/grid layouts for tiles of exactly equal height
> - Full graphical editor (no YAML required) — modeled after the native tile card editor, with a unified appearance panel (corner-radius presets, per-corner overrides) across every card
> - unavailable handling without crashing: values shown as "–", controls dimmed
> - Localized in German/English (follows hass.locale.language)
> - Accessible: every interactive element is keyboard-reachable (Tab/Enter/Space) with a visible focus ring and aria-label
> - Old configs (e.g. animations: true/false) are migrated to the current schema automatically on load — no manual dashboard edits needed
