# Tor

> Tor is an app for Home Assistant. It has 1.1k installs sharing analytics and was last updated October 27, 2026.

Tor is a Home Assistant app that gives remote access to an instance as an Onion site through Tor's Hidden Service feature. Because access goes through Tor, no firewall ports need to be opened and no HTTPS certificate has to be set up. The app can also open a SOCKS proxy and an HTTP proxy, so other applications on the network can reach the Tor network through the Home Assistant host. A stealth option hides traffic to and from the instance even from other nodes on the Tor network. The log level can be changed, and it also affects the log output of the Tor program. It requires Home Assistant OS and runs on aarch64 and amd64.

> This Tor app allows you to access your Home Assistant instance as an Onion site, through Tor's Hidden Service feature. With this feature enabled, you do not need to open your firewall ports or set up HTTPS to enable secure remote access.
>
> The app also offers the possibility to open a SOCKS proxy into the Tor network. Allowing you to access Tor from any of your (SOCKS supporting) applications through your Home Assistant installation.

## Permissions

- **Supervisor API**: Can talk to the Supervisor, which manages apps and the system.

## Network

- `9050/tcp`: Tor SOCKS proxy port
- `9080/tcp`: Tor HTTP proxy port

## Configuration

- **Log level**: Controls the level of log details the app provides.
- **SOCKS proxy**: Enabling this feature allows you to use other applications on your network to use the Tor network using this app as the SOCKS Proxy.
- **Tor's hidden service**: Enable Tor's Hidden Service to expose services on the Tor network. (E.g., accessing your Home Assistant instance over Tor.)
- **Stealth mode**: Requires clients to use an additional encryption key to be able to connect to the hidden service this app exposes to the Tor network.
- **Clients**: Names of client when using stealth mode. The app will generate keys for each of these clients. Valid client names are 1 to 16 characters long and only use characters in A-Za-z0-9+-\_ (no spaces).
- **Ports**: Configures hosts and ports to publish via a Tor Hidden Service. Use auto to publish Home Assistant using the Core port detected from Supervisor. Check the app documentation for the supported formats.
- **Bridges**: Configures bridges to establish a connection with the Tor network. Check the app documentation for the exact format to enter here.
- **HTTP proxy**: Open this port to listen for proxy connections using the HTTP protocol instead of SOCKS.
