It has 1.6k installs sharing analytics and was last updated July 9, 2026. Claude Code is an app that runs Anthropic's AI coding assistant in a browser-based terminal inside Home Assistant. It opens as its own page in the sidebar and can read and write Home Assistant configuration files. The assistant can help edit YAML configuration, create automations and scripts, and debug configuration problems. With the optional hass-mcp integration enabled, it can query entity states, control devices, and list services. Other options include dark or light terminal themes, tmux-based session persistence across page refreshes, and remote control from claude.ai or the Claude mobile app. It needs Home Assistant OS and an Anthropic account, with sign-in handled inside the terminal, and it runs with broad host access including the Supervisor and Docker. Shortened. ## Permissions - **Hardware access**: Can reach USB, serial or GPIO devices. - **Home Assistant API**: Can read and control Home Assistant. - **Supervisor API**: Can talk to the Supervisor, which manages apps and the system. - **Sign-in checks**: Can check Home Assistant usernames and passwords. - **Full hardware access**: Runs with full access to the host's hardware. - **Docker access**: Can control the other containers on the host. ## Configuration - **Enable Home Assistant MCP**: Enable the Home Assistant MCP server for direct entity and service interaction from Claude Code. Allows Claude to query states, call services, and interact with your smart home. - **Enable Playwright MCP**: Enable the Playwright MCP server for browser automation. Requires the "Playwright Browser" add-on to be installed and running. Allows Claude to navigate web pages, fill forms, click elements, and take screenshots. - **Playwright CDP Host**: Hostname of the Playwright Browser add-on for CDP connection. Leave empty for default (playwright-browser). If connection fails, check the Playwright Browser container hostname (e.g., 1016f397-playwright-browser). - **Terminal Font Size**: Font size for the web terminal in pixels (10-24). Adjust for readability on your display. - **Terminal Theme**: Color theme for the web terminal. Choose 'dark' for dark backgrounds or 'light' for light backgrounds. - **Working Directory**: The default working directory when Claude Code starts. Use /homeassistant for direct access to HA configuration files. - **Session Persistence**: Enable tmux session persistence. When enabled, your terminal session survives browser refreshes and disconnects. Recommended for long-running tasks. - **Auto-update Claude Code**: Automatically check for and install Claude Code updates on add-on startup. Keeps Claude Code current without requiring add-on version bumps. - **Enable Remote Control**: Automatically start Claude Code with Remote Control enabled for every session. Allows you to view and steer your local Claude Code session from claude.ai/code or the Claude mobile app. Requires a claude.ai Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise subscription (API keys are not supported). Security note: this add-on runs as root with full access to your Home Assistant host, so anyone who can sign in to the linked Claude account can control it. Leave this off unless you need it. - **Remote Control Session Name Prefix**: Prefix for auto-generated Remote Control session names visible in claude.ai/code and the Claude mobile app. Defaults to "HomeAssistant", producing names like "HomeAssistant-graceful-unicorn".
