# About Vulpo and Joshua Dessol Design

> Vulpo is a native Home Assistant app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, built and run by Joshua Dessol Design, a one-person software studio in Stuttgart, Germany. It is an independent third-party client, not a Home Assistant or Nabu Casa product.

## Why Vulpo exists

Home Assistant is the most capable smart home platform there is, and its mobile app wraps the same web dashboard the browser shows. That works, but it never feels like an app on the phone: scrolling is a web view, controls are HTML, and the parts of iOS that make a home app pleasant to live with (widgets, Control Center, Live Activities, Siri, a watch app) sit outside it.

Vulpo takes the other route. Every screen is SwiftUI, drawn by the phone rather than downloaded from the server. Dashboards are built in the app from 30+ card types and sync between devices over iCloud, so there is no YAML to edit and no second dashboard to maintain. The result is a client that behaves like the rest of the system it runs on.

## Who builds it

Joshua Dessol Design is the sole developer, designer and support desk behind Vulpo. Every release, icon, translation pass and reply to a support mail comes from the same person. Vulpo has no investors and no telemetry business model; it is funded by the optional Vulpo Pro upgrade and nothing else.

## What Vulpo is not

Vulpo is not affiliated with the Open Home Foundation or Nabu Casa, and Home Assistant is their trademark. It is not a replacement for Home Assistant and cannot run without a Home Assistant server of your own.

It is also not a cloud service. Vulpo talks straight to your server over your own network or your own remote URL. There is no Vulpo account, no relay in the middle, and no copy of your entity data on any server the studio controls. Diagnostics are anonymised before they leave the device and can be turned off.
